- Scored by the “Bow Hunting Committee (BHC) of Suffolk Archers” WHO WILL BE THE FINAL AUTHORITY in determining the contest winner. The BHC will accept scoring done by official scorers from the POPE & YOUNG, BOONE & CROCKET and NEW YORK BIG BUCK CLUBS should your antlers not be available for the BHC to measure during the contest time period
- Most likely to have antlers which, for our contest, will be scored in less than 60 days since harvesting the buck or green scored. This is acceptable in our contest.
DEER ENTERED IN OUR BIG DOE CONTEST WILL BE:
- A DOE -- no antlerless bucks
- Completely field dressed before weighing
- Ranked by WEIGHTHEAVIEST doe WINS
HOW TO ENTER YOUR DEER IN OUR ANNUAL CONTEST:
- To enter a Big Buck, you DO NOT need to bring the entire deer to be checked since only the antlers will be measured! Your taxidermist will keep your antlers while the cape is being tanned before mounting your deer’s head. If he is an official scorer, have him measure your antlers and submit the score on his form to the bow hunting committee. If he is not an official scorer, borrow your rack and arrange with the Bow Hunting Committee to have it scored. If you do not plan to have the head mounted, cut the top of the skull off with the antlers attached. DO NOT DETACH, SLIT OR SEPARATE the antlers from the skull plate because they will not be accepted for measurement as “the spread” is one of the scoring factors. In any event, contact the bow hunting Committee Chairman to make arrangements for scoring and entering your buck
- To enter a BIG DOE you may submit a weight slip from a taxidermist, butcher shop, weigh station, etc. The slip should include the date, your tag number, and name and telephone number of the person who weighed your doe. If you cannot get your doe weighed, contact the Bow Hunting Committee.
